The God Who Sees

Eva Windahl

Remember when you were a child and used to play hide and seek? Remember the feeling of being discovered by your siblings, parents or friends? Let me encourage you today and assure you that God knows how to find you! He is the GOD who SEES everything! As a matter of act that is one of his names! Let´s read Genesis 22:14:  “And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.”

After the angel of the Lord stops Abraham from killing his son, Abraham looks up, sees a ram caught in a thicket and offers it up as a sacrifice, instead of Isaac. Then Abraham named that sacred place Adonai Yireh (יהוה יראה), which in Hebrew means “the Lord will see.” What a strange name! What exactly will the Lord see? And when will this happen?

The true importance of this story is that this is the first instance of worship upon Mount Moriah, which means “divine sight.” This mountain will later become the site of both Jewish Temples in Jerusalem. The Bible tells us, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight” (Hebrews 4:13) and on this mountain, the sight of the Lord is felt very intensely.

Centuries later, not far from this very spot, God looked down and saw Jesus as a sacrifice on the cross. Abraham, being a prophet of God, chose the name “the Lord will see”, anticipating the divine sight of the crucifixion of Jesus.

Today be encouraged- the Lord SEES you- your circumstances, your struggles, your shortcomings but also your joy, worship and love for him.

Today let me assure you that God will SEE to it -that whatever you need- he will provide!
