(Dance With Me Oh Lover of My Soul to the Song of All Songs) by Paul Wilbur

 Introduction:

The Song of Solomon (also titled the Song of Songs or Canticles) was written by King Solomon, who represents Jesus as King, the Bridegroom after his ascent to the Divine realm. Here Christ Jesus, our Bridegroom  in (Matthew 25:6), speaks in the form of a melodic song, to his Bride, the Elect (2 Timothy 2:10Romans 8:33) who answers him as his Love.

2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the [a]elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Romans 8:33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.

Matthew 25:6 And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom [a]is coming; go out to meet him!’

The Elect and the Bride are one and the same. One view is that the 144,000 are the Elect, the Bride.

The Song of Solomon, or Song of Songs (hereafter, the Song) as it is titled in the first verse of the Song (also called Canticles in the Latin), asserts that its author is Solomon: “The song of songs, which is Solomon’s. It is widely recognized that the ending of the first verse could be translated to indicate Solomon’s authorship or that the Song was written for him or dedicated to him. Solomon is heralded in the Bible as a gifted songwriter and a man capable of writing the Song, the Song has similarities to other writings of Solomon, and his authorship gives it credibility.

Not only does that book depict a union between Christ and the Church, which is paramount, but I will teach it as the union and marriage of our new spirit and our individual (heart) awareness. Our spirit which is joined unto the Lord is the masculine principle of our life, and our individual heart awareness is the feminine principle of our life. As the seeds of the Mind of Christ which is in our spirit are deposited into our heart awareness, just as a woman’s womb in the natural, a formation begins to take place there, and then a birthing.

This birthing is fruit that remains rather than ‘here today’ and ‘gone tomorrow. When we live from the inside out, we are living out of the Eternal, Infinite, Immortality and the unlimited realm! The purpose of God for our life is not to merely get from Him (being need conscious) but learning how to allow Him to flow out of us on a continuous basis. Part of that experience happens by realizing that He has already given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, and then living out of that which is within us. This is precisely what we see in the Song of Solomon, a maturing process.

The Song of Songs in the first verse depicts that this book reveals the highest experience that we can have. That highest experience is not merely to be filled but fulfilled. It shows us how we can move beyond what Paul the Apostle called the in-part realm and not merely be filled but fulfilled. That does not mean that we throw away the gift realm, but we can experience that, and more. We can live out of our union in Christ and have Him reproduce Himself in, through and as us.

Just as a woman conceives seed in her womb so we conceive the seed of God’s thoughts in the womb of our heart. As that takes place there is then a formation that happens and then it is projected out into the experience of our life.

Song of Solomon depicts a people that bear the fruit of God, and that fruit is fruit that REMAINS! It is not what we have experienced in the past where we have born fruit that was here today and gone tomorrow, but this book is about the LORD reproducing Himself as PERMANENT fruit in, through and as us!

What a wonderful time we live in when we can experience as much of our Father as we can believe for! There is nothing that we must wait for. The Scripture says that hope deferred makes the heart sick. We do not have to put anything off into our future that Jesus Christ paid for and already placed within us; we merely need to live from the inside, out!

The whole book, Song of Solomon is about the Bride of Christ and Her maturing process.

My opinion–The Bride is being quickened at this present time.  Our being a Bride speaks of a submissive relationship to the Lord. Becoming a Bride relates to our having a higher (deeper) walk with our Lord.  Our being a Bride speaks of a submissive relationship to the Lord.  This Bride is within the present- day Church and is quietly being made ready for her unveiling.

Rev. 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.

As we confess our utter dependence upon the Heavenly Bridegroom (Jesus/Yeshua), and commit our lives to Him, we lose our identity and take on His identity, that in a submissive relationship to Him, we become the witness and expression of His life as was John the Baptist.

Some say the whole church is the Bride. Others say the Bride is coming out, rising from the Church.

Rev. 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His Bride has made herself ready.”

That is what the parable of the 10 virgins is all about: And the well -prepared ones went in with him to the wedding means that people with goodness and therefore with truth are taken to be with Him. Heaven is likened to a wedding because of the heavenly marriage, the marriage of goodness and truth. The Lord is likened to a Bridegroom because these people are then united with him. That is why the church is called a Bride.

The Song of Solomon is not what it first appears to be. It is not an historical event. It is actually an account of Christ calling His Bride out of the world, away from the pride and vanity it affords, and His tireless, patient and loving efforts to draw her to Him.

Eph. 4:23-24 to ·become [put on; clothe yourself with] the new ·self [Lperson; or Man; Cbecome like Christ]. That new person is created ·to be like God [or in God’s image; Laccording to God]—truly good and holy [or in the righteousness and holiness that comes from truth]. Expanded Bible

  Song of Solomon Chapter 1

SS 1:1 The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.

 Players/Actors:

Solomon-Jesus the Shepherd- King-Bridegroom- her Beloved- my Beloved – it’s to or about the Shepherd (Jesus Christ, Yeshua Ha’ Mashiach)

Shulamite- Bride of Christ -my Love

Bride speaks to Daughters of Jerusalem

Daughters of Jerusalem- Solomon’s harem- The term “Daughters of Jerusalem” is used seven times in the Song of Solomon. Describing who they are depends on your interpretation of the book. The literal explanation is that they are young, unmarried women who live in the city of Jerusalem. In this interpretation, they could be servants in Solomon’s household who are receiving instruction about love from the Shulamite. But if the Song of Solomon is an allegory, then this term could refer to the people of Israel who are pure and innocent and loved by Yahweh.

Beloved- The Lord- Bridegroom

The father of the Shulamite Bride to be

The brothers of the Shulamite Bride to be

 The Banquet

The Shulamite-Bride

Solomon/Bridegroom and the Shulamite/ Bride are the main characters. The reference to the Shulamite as one of Solomon’s concubines. She served as bed companion to David in the hope that her fresh beauty would induce some warmth in the old man (I Kings 1:1–4, 15), and as his housekeeper. The notice (1:4) that the king knew her not serves less to impute decrepitude to David than to inform the audience that there would be no other claimants to David’s throne than Solomon and Adonijah. When Solomon became king, *Adonijah , whose life Solomon had spared although he knew him to be a dangerous rival and asked *Bath-Sheba, Solomon’s mother, to intercede on his behalf for permission to marry Abishag. Solomon correctly interpreted this request for the former king’s concubine as a bid for the throne (See II Sam 12:8; 16:20–23 and had Adonijah killed (I Kings 2:13–25). Some see in Abishag, who is described as “very fair” (I Kings 1:4) as the Shulamite of the Song of Songs (Shulamite being regarded as the same as Shunammite).

This is also called the Song of Songs. It is Solomon’s greatest hit. 1 of 1005 according to 1Kings 4:32

It begins with her soliloquy –

SS 1:2 Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth; for Your love is better than wine.

The Lord here speaks of more than one kiss that He gives to us, so there are many to look forward to in this life. Wine warms us as fire and goes thru out our whole blood stream when we take a sip of it. In this the Shulamite, is saying look at what impact wine does have on us, but your kisses Lord are better. She also likened His love to His kisses. When we love someone, we do show it with some type of affection. Jesus/Yeshua is affectionate. The whole Bible shows forth this love with every verse and dot and tittle, love pours from its pages. The Bible is the very heart of God. See it as a big heart that you open up and out pours His words of love, wisdom and knowledge to us.

His kiss is His words to us. To one who is desperate to hear a word or seeking the scriptures for direction and guidance, or one who needs to be encouraged and to know they are loved, the Lords words will stir you up, gird you up, warm you up and set you on fire.

Picture this:

There was a One who was desperate to know the King, she had heard of Him, that he was a kind and good person. He came to her one day as a Shepherd she did not fully know He was the King but His words she was so drawn to. He had rescued her from her accusers and now she would not leave His side.

Remember the time in your life, when you needed rescued?

Who rescued you?

Who brought words of life that were as kisses that warmed your heart and set you ablaze, that gave you life and set with you a new purpose?

Look upon Him with wonder and awe, look upon Him with love. Get close enough that you feel His breath as He speaks to you in a whisper.

What is this kiss is He giving you? (the Rhema Word)

Ask the Lord to kiss you with His kisses and He will speak forth a word to you that will be from His heart to yours. His love is never-ending, it is boundless and never runs dry.

Journey on with your Bridegroom, the path and the way are His choosing and His kisses along the way will sustain you and encourage you and keep you ablaze. You become what you behold. As Jesus/Yeshua, the Word, becomes the lamp and light upon the path as you share His kisses (words) with others along the way. The Divine Exchange. How does that happen?

BE STILL AND KNOW I AM GOD- Ps. 46:10

1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

We shall know Him and shall know just as I also am known.

 Summary verses 1-2

Isn’t it amazing the first verse of this book deals with the subject of kissing?

A kiss can mean different things, but it’s usually a call to intimacy. It’s an invitation. It represents a covenant between two people. It goes beyond words and expresses unspoken emotions like nothing else. A kiss says I love you, I care for you, you mean the world to me. A kiss brings comfort and reassurance that everything is and will be okay.

One has to be willing to vulnerable to ask for a kiss, as well as desperate. Here the Bride (us) is making herself very vulnerable and available for a heavenly kiss from the Lover of her soul!

But just how does the Lord kiss us? To fully understand this let’s look at the Hebrew meaning of kiss. It means to arrange, to put in order, to equip, as in equipping for battle.  Worship means to kiss toward. A kiss from the Lord is a divine equipping!

So, what kind of a kiss do we want from Him? Do we want just a peck on the cheek, or a deep intimate kiss?

As mentioned, one of the ways He can kiss us is with His word. This verse says……….your love is BETTER than wine!

To be drunk means one has drunk alot! To many believers the idea of being drunk in the Spirit means being giddy, out of control, rolling around, laughing, or shaking, falling out, etc. But the best way of being drunk is stated in this verse…being drunk from His kisses of His mouth (Word).

So just how much of His Word have you been drinking? Have you been indulging on His words, or have you just been sipping?

A merry heart does good like a medicine. Truly His kisses of His word make us merry!

Your name is ointment poured forth…

What exactly is an ointment? This word is very rich in the Hebrew! It means ‘fatness, medicine’, also a ‘feast of FAT things!

Oh, the wonderful name of Jesus/Yeshua! It’s rich, its fat, it is medicine to your spirit, soul and body! It is a rich, a rich feast ready and waiting to be consumed! Hallelujah!

He beckons us to just call out His name, for He is a vial of rich, healing ointment, so ready to be poured out on us and through us to others!

Call on Him, the One who poured out Himself completely for you, the one who emptied Himself of His Divinity and became flesh and blood, died a criminals death and descended into Hell and overcame death so that we would not have to suffer for our sins!

To truly pour forth a vessel has to be broken. Jesus was broken in everyway  so that the precious ointment of His name could be completely poured out on mankind us, with none wasted. Perhaps this is why He was so touched by the woman who broke the alabaster jar and poured it forth onto Him, because it was not only a sacrifice but a picture of what He would do for us. Then, what happened as a result? A lovely fragrance filled the room!

To pour out in Hebrew means ‘to empty completely, like our stomachs empty out food completely, like rivers.

Before Esther and the other young virgins could go before the King, they had to endure six months of beauty treatments, which consisted of applications of various ointments. Often before promotion or new assignments the Holy Spirit often takes us through seasons where He applies these beauty treatments to our spirits. He may reveal a new aspect of His name and pour it forth in our lives. Often these are seasons where it may seem like He has closed the doors and put us in a season of ‘waiting’. Our emotions may be tender and sensitive, and we may feel like we aren’t hearing from God. But rest assured, He is close, He is there, it’s just time when He wants to empty the vial of ‘living’ ointment into your spirit, that a new fresh fragrance may flow forth from your life!

 Discussion Questions C-1:1-2:

How has He kissed you? Share a time you had a ‘special’ kiss from Jesus.

‘Your love is BETTER THAN WINE’ What spiritual analogies can we draw from what wine does to us in the natural (in the sense of medicinal properties of wine, as Timothy said, drink a little wine for your stomach’s sake)

3.How has His name poured forth beauty and strength in your life? Share a time when He revealed a new aspect(s) of His name to you.

4.Have you ever gone through a season of beauty treatments like I described? Share what it was like.

5.What aspect of His name do you need Him to reveal to you now?

SS 1:3 Because of the fragrance of your good ointments, Your name is ointment (perfume) poured forth; Therefore the virgins love you.

Then, what happened as a result? A lovely fragrance filled the room! Mark 14:3, Matthew 26:7 and Luke 7:37.

To pour out in Hebrew means to empty completely, like our stomachs empty out food completely, like rivers.

Before Esther and the other young virgins could go before the King, they had to endure six months of beauty treatments, which consisted of applications of various ointments. Often before promotion or new assignments the Holy Spirit often takes us through seasons where He applies these beauty treatments to our spirits. The fragrance of your perfume is pleasing; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens adore you.

2 Cor. 2:15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

Ephesians 5:2 and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant sacrificial offering to God.

Philippians 4:18 I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

The instances of women who poured ointment upon Jesus. One account in Mark 14:3 says, “there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she broke the box, and poured it on his head.” Another account in John 12:3 says, Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.

 Applied to the Believer:

Now we are putting the Lord first, though much of our self-seeking is still intact.

Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth; for Your loves are better than wine. For Your ointments have a lovely fragrance; Your name is as oil poured out, therefore the virgins love You.”  Song of Solomon 1:2-3

Notice that we are telling the Lord that we love Him because of all that He gives to us.  We are saying, I love you because I like your blessings.  But again, the Lord looks beyond our self-centeredness and continues His work within us, until we see our need and confess it to the Lord.

 Daughters of Jerusalem

SS 1:4a Draw me, we will run after You.

 SS1:4 b The King has brought me into his chambers;

 Daughters of Jerusalem

 SS1:4 c we will be glad and rejoice in You, we will remember Your love more than wine;

 SS1:4d the upright love You.

Psa. 73:28 And I, it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, to declare all Your works.

We cry out for the Lord to draw us closer and closer to Him. We run after Him. In actuality we don’t draw near but he draws near to us. He also draws us to Him.

John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

1 Tim. 2:4Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Although James says: Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 4:8a

This is the Lord drawing me to Himself with a Rhema word to our souls.

Extol your love more than wine.

Of course, wine is a symbol of Holy Spirit. It is also a symbol of transformation, as grapes undergo transformation when they are fermented. Wine may also symbolizes sustenance and life.

New Wine. It’s a prophetic theme of the Holy Spirit—

  • The theme of ‘new wine’ appears throughout the Old Testament, especially with reference to the Promised Land
  • Jesus/Yeshua used the metaphor of new wine in His teaching (Luke 5:39) and John tells us that Jesus’/Yeshua’sfirst miracle was to turn large vessels of water into wine, at the wedding feast in Cana (John 2:1-10)

Jesus/Yeshua said to the servants, Fill the jars with water, so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet. They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.’ (John 2:7-9a,)

New Wine is Associated with the Holy Spirit

Wine is symbolic of the Holy Spirit and Jesus spoke of it in association with the move of God (Matt 9:17) [1].

In the New Testament, the infilling of the Spirit is compared and contrasted to drinking wine.
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit’ (Eph 5:18 KJVS, see also Acts 2:13)

You have learned to receive of Me in one way, and now I am coming in another. One that you are not used to, and there may be a time of adjusting. I have a different impartation for you!

And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, The old is better. (Luke 5:39 NIV)

New Wine Speaks of Renewed Love and Intimacy with God

Take me away with you—let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers. We rejoice and delight in you; we will praise your love more than wine. How right they are to adore you!’ (Song of Songs 1:4 )

There are frequent references to love like wine in the Song of Songs.

In the new wine season, the Spirit is wooing you. Hear God say, I am calling you to intimacy with Me. And in that place, I will be your greatest delight.

The Trial is Giving Way to Joy

New wine is from grapes that have been through a recent process of crushing. In the Hebrew, the words translated new wine mean freshly pressed, squeezed, expelled, and trodden out. The grapes have come through the winepress, where they have been trodden underfoot.

Wine has been produced under pressure! So, if you have felt as though you have been going through a process of crushing, lift up your hands.

Now is the time of outpouring.

New Wine Means it’s Time for the Harvest

In the Bible, new wine is associated with the harvest.
Then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. (Deuteronomy 11:14. NIV)

A harvest from God is abundant. And He has promised a day of overflow; one in which the harvest and new wine will be plentiful.

The days are coming, declares the Lord, when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills. Amos 9:13
New Wine Brings Celebration

The seasonal crushing and treading upon the grapes was a time of great joy and celebration for the community (Jeremiah 48:33) and wine is associated with gladness and celebration in Scripture. (Psalm 104:15, John 2)

New wine is also associated with blessing and bounty (Deut. 7:12-13, Jer. 31:12)

Where there is New Wine, New Wineskins are Needed

Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins. (Matthew 9:17 NIV)

Jesus’ taught on the difference between old and new wineskins. He was saying:

For this period of time, this is what God is doing. But don’t settle even for this—for the time is coming on My Father’s calendar when it will change again! (Matt 9:15)

Where there is new wine, there must be a new wineskin; a flexible container for the new anointing God has for us. It’s time to ask:

  • What ways, means and methods are now being surpassed?
  • What strategies does God have for us to embrace?
  • What is the Holy Spirit indicating, as we pray about this?

New Wine Means God’s Promise is Being Fulfilled

When God promised His people the land of Canaan, He spoke consistently of the new wine. It was part of the package—something tangible they could look forward to in the Promised Land.

So, Israel will live in safety; Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew.’ (Deut. 33:28 NIV)

Isaac gave Jacob the blessing, ‘May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness—an abundance of grain and new wine.’ (Genesis 27:28 NIV) Hear your Father saying,

This is My promise to you, being fulfilled. Here I am! That which you have looked forward to, the new wine is here. This is the day your cup runs over.

The New Wine Season is One of Miracles

As at the wedding of Cana, the new wine was miraculous.

Just as the master of ceremonies at the wedding was astounded, and servants looked on in wonder, people will be amazed at what God is doing.

In the season of new wine, Jesus/Yeshua is glorified!
Together, we rejoice and say, You have kept the good wine until now! (John 2:10, NKJV)

The Source of the New Wine

Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
(Luke 22:20, NKJV)

The ultimate representation of the new wine was revealed by Jesus, as He took the Passover cup of wine, ‘the fruit of the vine’ (v18), in His hand.

It is only through the sacrifice of His blood–shed for our sins–that every other benefit symbolized by new wine in Scripture is made freely available to us. Such is the grace of God.

 Worship Means to Kiss Toward

Years ago I started searching in His word and found that worship means to blow kisses in Hebrew. As with the disciples we say, who else has the words of life, only Jesus/Yeshua. In finding this, I knew what He meant.  So, the Lord says to us: Begin to worship Me, begin to speak of your love for me. When I began to do this, it draws Him to me and brings me into his chambers.

And it is not that Yahweh wants worship. We are the ones who need worship.

 Picture this:

Not only does God draw, but we can draw Him as well with our worship. The Lord even says as much to the Shulamite, Song 4:3 Your lips are like a cord of scarlet, and your speech is becoming; Do we not want lips that draw, our speech to be becoming? Her speech drew him to her.

Prov. 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

She/the Bride is becoming aware of His ways and He is training her as with us how He likes to be approached, what He desires to hear us speak.

The Upright love you.  Notice the Lord calls us upright.  Upright means righteous. There are 66 scriptures in the Word about the upright.

He made us upright (in right standing) from the beginning and continues to do so.

Ec. 7:29 Truly, this only I have found: That God made man upright, but they have sought out many schemes.”

CEV says I did learn one thing: We were completely honest (and righteous) when God created us, but now we have twisted minds. (or once did)

Psa. 33:1 Rejoice in the Lord, O righteous ones; praise is becoming for the upright.

Psa. 140:13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; the upright shall dwell in Your presence.

Set yourself before the Lord.

Begin to worship Him – Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. He will come running and sweep you up in times of wonder and awe in His Presence.

Let your speech be becoming to Him, for not only does it bless the Lord. He loves to hear our voice. Does your voice sound becoming, does it please the hearer when we speak, does it please you and transform you and bring you near to Him?

Ps. 50:23 Whoso offers praise glorifies me: and to him that orders his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.

John 6:44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who has sent Me draw him, and I will raise him up at the last day.

Journey on, with your praise and worship to the One who deserves it all! May your speech be pleasant to all and the hearers be blessed because of His words of life flowing out of your mouth.

You have received a new thing, a new dimension in the way of the Lord in the wilderness.

Draw me, we will run after You: the king has brought me into His chamber.  Song of Solomon 1:4

This prayer has only two words, Draw me.  Yet this is the most powerful prayer that we could ever pray – Lord, if you will draw me (spirt, soul and body), in the totality of my being (soul-will, intellect, and emotions), I will run after you. The Lord creates spiritual hunger.  Ministry can only feed the hunger that the Lord puts within us.  Therefore, when we come to the Lord, we must first acknowledge our need:

Lord, I desire You to work within me, to draw me to Yourself, to cause me to become that which You would have me to be.  Lord, wherever it may lead or whatever it may cost, draw me, and in every aspect of my being, I will run after you.

The result of such a prayer, when prayed in heart sincerity, will result in intimacy of relationship with the Lord – “the King has brought me into His chambers.  Once our lives are yielded, and Jesus brings us to Himself as being His Bride, we become one with Him and now His life can be manifested and revealed through our lives.

There is a progression in the outworking of this, in which two basic confessions will result.  Each of us begins with the first one – our being self-centered.

He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.  John 1:23

Draw me, we will run after You.  The King has brought me into His chambers.  Song of Solomon 1:4

This verse expresses in two words, a prayer that is vital to our spiritual well-being, Draw me!

Following our prayer of desire is a commitment to the Lord that we will indeed respond to Him, as He creates within us a spiritual hunger that will enable us to make this commitment, We will run after You.

Finally, The King has brought me into His chambers is the marvelous result of the outworking of our prayer of desire, and of the expression of our determination to respond to the Lord.

This essential prayer, Draw me, relates to the spiritual hunger that in varying degrees is resident within each of us.  This hunger drive, a powerful basic urge that is at the foundation of all our desires, seeks its satisfaction in many ways. The Lord will enlarge our spiritual capacity, as in faith we look to Him to cause us to become spiritually hungry.  A primary means to accomplish this is to present ourselves before the Lord and then actively wait upon Him.”  As we wait, the Lord will work in our behalf and will respond to our desire for increased spiritual hunger and capacity.

As we pray this short, yet powerful prayer, Draw me, we are opening the way that will lead us upward into the inexhaustible chambers of heaven.  Here, as the hunger within us finds its full satisfaction, all that we had longed for will be found in Him.

The Lord is seeking those who are willing to come apart and ascend the mountain of vision to be with Him. Rev. 4:1

But know that the Lord has set apart him that is godly for Himself.  Psalm 4:3

There is much that yet remains hidden, which the Lord desires to reveal to those who intimately desire Him and are willing to come apart to spend quality time with Him – alone.

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.  Ephesians 1:18

This prayer, draw me, relates to our spiritual hunger.  It is the most important request that we could ever set before the Lord.  If we do not have this spiritual hunger, our interests will settle upon earthly pursuits, and we will seek satisfaction in them alone.

Ministry can feed hunger, but only the Lord can create spiritual hunger.  This prayer for us to become spiritually hungry will be effective only after we commit ourselves to rightly respond to the Lord – we will run after You.  The written Word is to become a present reality, and experienced.

Thus, we must determine that we will steadfastly seek a closer relationship to the Lord.  When He responds to our prayer and begins to draw us to Himself, all of our other needs will fall into their proper place and order.

But seek you first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.”  Matthew 6:33

The greatest privilege and blessing that we can have in life is for the Lord to become active in our spiritual life experience and begin to progressively guide us toward our prayer closet, where we can experience times of personal communion with Him. It is only here, within the place that we have set apart for times of communion with Him, that we will be able to give full expression to our desire to know and experience the Lord Himself.  It is here that we will come to personally know Jesus and find the satisfaction that we have longed for.  It is here that He will share with us His secrets and impart within us the understanding of His ways.

Impart means to stir up. You already have:

2Pet. 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

All this will not happen in a moment of time, or in a single step, as our first response to the Lord is usually self-centered. Yet, as we mature there is a process.

  Bedroom chambers depicts intimacy.

 Summary verses 1:3-4

Draw here in the Hebrew is anything but a passive verb! It is not a casual drawing. It is NOT the typical slow motion scene we see often on tv with the familiar romantic symphony being played by strings in the background, while a man and a woman run slowly towards each other, and finally fall into each other’s arms.

Instead draw in Hebrew means ‘a VIOLENT pulling out, a RESCUING, as out of a pit! It also means a quick drawing, as one quickly draws a sword (the Word of God) out of its protective sheath to take their authority.

When I first discovered this dynamic meaning of draw I immediately thought of Psalms 40:2. He lifted me out (rescued) of the pit, out of the miry clay! No matter how low we may sink to, He is always there to rescue us, to draw us to Himself, so that we may run together WITH Him!

I also like to think of the word draw in terms of a medicinal/herbal poultice, how when it is applied to the skin it draws out impurities, poisons and foulness. As we press into Him, as we allow is amazing love to draw us into Him, the ick just falls off!

I love the fact that scripture uses the word running’ instead of walking While walking alongside someone you love is wonderful, there is a big difference between walking and running! There is an euphoria , an exhilaration in running that cannot be experienced in walking! While Jesus will walk with us when we only have the strength to walk, His real desire is that we RUNNNNNNN, linked arm to arm with Him, and not only that, but RUN with each other even as runners in a relay race cooperatively and strategically run and pass the baton to each other in perfect wisdom and timing.

Phil 3:3-14 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [d]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 12:1Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

2 Tim. 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

What was intriguing to me as I looked at the different translations renderings of this verse is that not all say run with. The NASB for instance, says run after. There is a big difference between running with and running after. Yet, Jesus is the ultimate forerunner, the firstborn from the dead, and Paul does say we are runners as in a race, and we run, fixing our eyes on the author and finisher of our race.’ So then perhaps we both run WITH Him and TOWARDS Him!?

And finally what does it say? ‘for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross. What was that joy? Could it be you and I? YES!!

The focus here is THE KING BRINGS ME. He brings me into His inner most chamber at His bidding, His wooing, His initiative!

Keep in mind the previous part of the verse, where the King and the Bride are running together in a hot passionate pursuit of each other. How He absolutely loves it when we run after Him. He so enjoys a good chase. He so enjoys it when we are ferverently pursuing Him with our whole heart, when we are totally breathless yet wanting more in our pursuit of Him.

The word in Hebrew for “brings me in” implies much more than a casual escorting. It speaks of a suddenly bringing, a falling upon, a carrying, as one alights on an enemy and then carries them away captive! Can you see the passion of our Bridegroom here? He doesn’t want to waste any time! He is so intent on being one with His Bride, His church.

Another part of the definition of to ‘bring me in’ in the Hebrew is ‘to come to pass, to be fulfilled, to be accomplished (of desire). This definition implies nothing less than a perfect and complete union. We in Him, and He in us. All His desires have become ours, and His perfect will, plans, and promises are brought into complete fulfillment and completion as we become one with Him, and we allow Him to completely overwhelm, overtake and carry us captive into His innermost chamber, the innermost depths of Him. Take us Lord, make haste!

We are already One with Him as He prayed in John 17. We must wake up to that fact and experience it!

‘Chambers’ in Hebrew means the innermost room, apartment, a hidden, private, secure place, as a bed chamber. It also means ‘the inner most parts of the breast’ (His heart!) It comes from a root word which means ‘to encompass, to enclose, to surround’ Selah!

John was favored among the three James, Peter and John because John laid his head on Jesus’ breast/bosom.

John 13:22There was reclining on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.

Of course, He is no respector of persons, but John was that person.

The phrase “the disciple whom Jesus loved” is used six times in the Gospel of John, but in no other New Testament accounts of JesusJohn 21:24 states that the Gospel of John is based on the written testimony of this disciple. Since the end of the first century, the Beloved Disciple has been commonly identified with John the Evangelist.  The revelation of Jesus Christ is Book of Revelation.

The Lord is looking for those who are running, whose hearts are hot in pursuit of Him. He wants to swoop down, lift up and carry away into His chambers those who are running after Him, who are desperate, even in their tiredness of weakness and distress. Oh how He wants to satisfy every longing, ever desire, ever need of His lovesick Bride. One moment of being in the innermost chambers of the King can change us forever, in one “suddenly” of God.

Only when we are in complete union with Him, in His innermost chambers, in the holy of holies, do we REALLY live, move and have our being!  Acts 17:28

Don’t let today go to waste, run…run after Him dearly beloved! He is waiting, longing to take you into His chambers NOW
