“What Are You Looking For?”
Everybody is looking for something- somewhere-sometimes.
Somehow, we are all looking for happiness, love, answers and for the meaning of life itself. The thing is that we are so busy looking that we forget that God who is actually looking FOR US TOO! God sent his son, Yeshua, looking for us! In Luke 19:10 we can read that: “…the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Since Adam and Eve´s rebellion in the Garden of Eden God started to search for us. Not that he doesn´t know where we are, No. God is looking for us so that He can show us the way home. There is however something to consider and that is HOW we search or seek. God encourages us to SEEK wholeheartedly! But what does it mean to seek the Lord with a whole heart?
May I suggest that you decide
To seek Him first, before all else. To seek Him foremost, above all else. To seek Him fundamentally, beneath all else. To seek Him finally, after all else. To seek Him fully, beside nothing else. To seek Him faithfully, despite everything else. If you desire to seek God, you should be encouraged for three reasons.
Firstly – God Is Drawing You – John 6:44 tells us that anyone who is seeking God is seeking Him because God has put a desire into the heart of the person to want to know Him. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:44 (NASB) The Greek word that is translated as “draw” is helkuo. The word was used in the New Testament to refer to dragging a person (Acts 16:19) or a net (John 21:11). That is, God draws or drags a person to Himself. This is great news. It means that God wants you and is helping you find Him.
Secondly – Seeking God, Pleases God – The second wonderful truth can be found in Hebrews 11:6. And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)Here we are told that the first step to pleasing God is to believe that “He is.” That is, God exists. It is important to notice that anyone who seeks God believes to some degree that God exists.
Thirdly – God Rewards Seekers – Another verse that further explains this principle is Jeremiah 29:12-14. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you . . .” Jeremiah 29:12-14 (NASB) Here God tells us that if we will seek Him with all our heart and search for Him, God will let us find Him. Notice how serious the seeking and searching must be. The person must be very serious and seek and search for Him with all his/her heart. The most significant part of the verse is that God promises serious seekers that they will find Him. Remember Hebrews 11:6 also said that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
A lukewarm, passive seeking after God won’t get us anywhere. Those who seek after God due to the pressure of other people—parents, siblings, friends—will miss out on the joy of discovering Him. Those who seek after Him with all their hearts will never be disappointed.
Ultimately, the reward of seeking God is finding HIMSELF.
