DAVID, GOLIATH, GOLGOTHA & JESUS

David, Goliath, Golgotha & Jesus
Bonnie Nelson

A couple weeks ago, in the Monday Night Forum, we talked about David and Goliath.  I doubt there are many who have not heard or read the story of David killing Goliath with one smooth stone. Since childhood all of us at some time or another have seen a movie of David & Goliath or read the story in I Samuel 17 of how David fought and killed the mighty giant, Goliath.

It was said in I Samuel 17:4, “And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.”

A cubit was 18 inches in Hebrew and 24″ in Egyptian, so Goliath was over 10 feet tall.  David was a young boy and not believed to have been a large man in stature.

David didn’t wear Saul’s armour, because it didn’t fit, he used only his slingshot with a small stone to take down the mighty giant, for God was with him.

Most of us assume the stone killed Goliath, but there are some who believe Goliath may have only been stunned and this was the reason David took the sword and cut Goliath’s head off, thinking he might wake up.  Interesting, but David may have had another reason.

In I Sam 17:54 there is something unusual that happens after Goliath was slain.

“And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.”

Now the battle between David and Goliath took place in the Valley of Kayla, which was almost 20 miles from Jerusalem. My question is? Why did David drag Goliath’s head all those miles to Jerusalem?

It would be morbid thinking David would be taking Goliath’s head to have it stuffed as a souvenir, besides, I don’t think they did that back then.  I mean, what do you do with a giant head? Putting it on display would be yucky, not to mention the smell and there were hygiene laws God gave the Israelites too, which would make them unclean handling dead things.

So, what’s up with this? Why and where was David taking this Giant’s head to Jerusalem?  Surely he had a reason. We know that David was a Man after God’s Heart, so was he doing something in the natural, which was significant in the spirit, a prophetic act of some sort? I wonder?

If David is God’s man, then Goliath is surely Satan’s man.

David is fighting to protect Israel, while Goliath is trying to destroy Israel, God’s family. David’s lineage is Ruth and Goliath, his lineage is from Orpha, who produced the race of giants.

Two women, Two sisters, Two enemies, Two Nations, the Nation of Israel and the Nation of Philista. When David fought Goliath, it was a family feud.

The Hebrew Bible makes it clear, the mother of the race of
giants was…Orpha

http://jwa.org/encyclopedia/article/orpah-midrash-and-aggadah

After leaving Ruth, she is said to have lain, that very night, with one hundred men, and even with a dog. The Philistine Goliath, who fought the young David during the battle in the valley of Elah, was born of this promiscuous activity. (Ruth Rabbah 2:20). Orpah’s wanton behavior is said to be characteristic of her and one of the exegeses of her name describes such conduct: “Orpah—because everyone ground her like bruised corn [harifot]” (BT Sotah loc. cit.).

The Rabbis identify the Orpah mentioned in the Book of Ruth with the Raphah (or Harafah), the mother of the four warriors of Gath who appear in II Sam. 21, and the Goliath from Gath (Harafah’s son), with the Goliath who fought David in I Sam. 17.
Goliath represented evil and was trying to wipe out God’s family, the lineage where Jesus was to come from. Who wanted that? Satan. Goliath was the “seed of the serpent.”

So, David took Goliath’s head to Jerusalem, but what did he do with it and where did he put it? What would you call or name the place where Goliath’s head would be put?

Think about that and let me bring a bit more information in to get a deeper look at the death of Goliath and why God loved David so much.

When Jesus was crucified, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all shared His Story.  They spoke about Jesus being crucified on a hill called “Calvary” or in Latin “Calvariea.”

In Hebrew the word Calvary is “Golgatha” and it is called,  “The hill of the skull.”

The question about why the hill was called “The hill of the skull,” has been sought after for centuries. The obvious would be because you can almost see a skull face in the rocks, but is that the only reason possible or could there be more?

Origin said it was believed this is where Adam’s skull was buried by the early Church Fathers. Jewish tradition believed Noah got on the ark and took the body/skull of Adam with them and after the flood Shem (Melchizedek) came here and buried Adams skull somewhere in Jerusalem.

Tradition writings, Old Jewish Tradition Rabbi’s, past down stories of the Ark of the Covenant being hidden or actually buried in this hill over the centuries.

Ron Wyatt dug into the hill and claimed to have found the Ark at Golgotha and some of Jesus’ blood on it, but did not bring forth any proof to substantiate his claims.

Church Fathers also believed the blood of Jesus ran down into the ground at Golgatha, to touch the Ark of the Covenant, but they can’t or as yet, have not brought forth any proof either.

The one thing we do know is, Golgotha was the place where Jesus was crucified, but why there? Is there a spiritual reason?

Maybe it’s in the Name?  The name Goliath according to the Bible, Goliath of Gath, is a name derived from the words Gola Gatha.

Some believe from this formation of words Goliath and Golgatha are tied together.  What do you think?

Even though I don’t have pointed ears and my name is not Spock (Star Trek), I would say logically, in looking at this stuff, David took the head of Goliath, (the head of the serpent) and buried it in Jerusalem, on the hill of Golgatha. And that is why it became known as, the hill of the skull.   Could it really be that simple?

Goliath, being part human and angelic was a mutation of what God created.  He represented the “seed of the serpent,” the enemies of Israel and the epitome of the evil that Satan tried to produce on the earth through offspring of fallen angels and the daughters of men. (Gen 4:6)

So, what does the Bible say about the “seed of the serpent?”
Genesis 3:15 God’s Prophetic Words, ” KJV

And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

When Jesus was crucified, think about him being crucified on the hill of Golgatha. Think about Him being on the hill of the skull (head) of Goliath, the seed of the serpent (Satan).

If Goliath’s skull, his head, was/is buried somewhere underneath the place of the cross of Jesus and spiritually represented the seed of the serpent, the powers of the enemy that brought corruption and even the flood judgment on the earth…are you getting this???

Goliath and the giants kept Israel out of the Promised Land. The giant, Goliath, is the one who brought fear into the Hebrew Army, so they were to afraid to fight. Do you think God was happy about what was happening?

Well, think on this. When the Blood of Jesus’ came out of His Body and it poured down into the soil of that hill called Golgatha…..If Goliath’s head was buried there, it FULFILLED Genesis 3:15.

Jesus is in the business of fulfilling Scripture and God’s Plan always comes through!

And when we look deeper into what happened on that hill of the skull, we know the heel of Jesus was bruised because we now have EVIDENCE , that when they crucified a man, and there are drawings to prove this…..

We now know, they put the nail, NOT in the top part of the foot, as traditionally thought and shown in all the pictures we have seen, but in the heel, the nail was placed through the heel.

Plus, the tree was in the middle and there was a nail on the left heel and in the right heel.

I hope you are getting this….The heel of Jesus was completely bruised!!! and the seed of the serpent’s head was completely crushed. That is what Genesis 3:15, God’s Word predicted about the defeat of the enemy, the defeat of Satan in the Scriptures.

Take another look!

I will make you and the woman hostile toward each other. I will make your descendants and her descendant hostile toward each other. He will crush your head, and you will bruise his heel.” GWT

And I will put hostility between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; her offspring will attack your head, and you will attack her offspring’s heel.” NET

and enmity I put between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; he doth bruise thee — the head, and thou dost bruise him — the heel.’ Young’s Literal Translation

Now check this out. The Rabbinical interpretation of the word demons, which the Bible talks about, is actually talking about the spirits of the giants that died.  The Bible says that the dead have no resurrection, but the word dead used here is not the normal word for dead.

The Hebrew word used here for dead is Refaime. The Hebrew Bible says the Refaime have no resurrection.

The Hebrew name for a race of giants that existed is “Refaime,” which means, the giants have no “resurrection.”

About the Refaime:

1.REPHAIM is used to comprehend all the gigantic races of the Canaanites, of whom there were several families. There were Rephaim beyond Jordan, at Ashtaroth Karnaim, in the time of Abraham, Genesis 14:5; also some in the time of Moses.

Og king of Bashan was of the Rephaim. In the time of Joshua, some of their descendants dwelt in the land of Canaan, Joshua 12:4 17:15, and we hear of them in David’s time, in the city of Gath, 1 Chronicles 20:4-6. The giant Goliath and others were the remains of the Rephaim, or of the kindred family of Anakim. Their magnitude and strength are often spoken of in Scripture. They appear to have excelled in violence and crime, and hence are monuments of divine justice.

THE VALLEY OF THE REPHAIM, OR GIANTS, was famous in Joshua’s time, Joshua 15:817:15 18:16, and in the time of David, who here defeated the Philistines, 2 Samuel 5:18,22 1 Chronicles 11:6 14:9.

Why is it so important to know the giants have no resurrection? Because, once giants died, their human side went back to dust, but their spiritual (angelic) side, became the evil spirits that roam the earth, which men have had to deal with all these years.

So, no resurrection and they are going to be judged, for the Bible says:

Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? I Cor 6:3

We will judge angels one day, principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, wicked spirits in heavenly places.

Going back to David…If the Rabbinacle interpretation “pre” 200 years before Christ is correct, David and his mighty men killed all 5 giants wiping out all the giants of the earth at that time.

David killed the natural seed of the serpent, but Jesus dealt with the demons and killed the spiritual seed of the enemy. David and Jesus worked together. Think about it.

Was David perfect, without sin? No, but he worked with God and helped to make the way through his lineage for Jesus to come through.  David was a giant killer. He attacked the seed of the serpent and cut his head off and put it where Scripture could be fulfilled through the work of Christ.

Jesus defeated the spiritual seed of the serpent on Golgotha, by putting all things under his feet, and if we are aligned and born into Him, then isn’t this a picture for us to understand the authority and power in our feet?

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace (power) of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen Romans 16:20 KJV

And what About Isaiah 52:7?

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns! NLT

On Golgatha victory was gained through the crucifixion of our Lord, with His blood running down under His Feet, upon the head of the seed of the serpent, defeating of the powers of Satan. Truly, Our God Reigns!

Another Scripture fulfilled. Halleluhjah!

The enemy was under His feet and the enemy is under our feet.
Time to jump, shout, dance and do the Stomp!

May those who have ears to hear – rise up and take their place
There are giants rising up in our land.
Make it so Lord, Make it so, in the Name of Yeshua/Jesus
Make it so!

Wow I just wrote this very thing in my notes about Goliath and Golgotha and the prophetic action of David relating to Christ’s death. I went to Google to find some more info on Golgotha and came across your writing. God is amazing. I saw the same thing that the cross of Jesus penetrated the head and his blood flowed down penetrating the skull of the enemy.
Jesus declared in triumph from on top of the head of Goliath “IT IS FINISHED!!”

This was an amazing revelation. Son’s of God are able to walk in the glory of God

  • Peter Evans says:

Yes.When David took Goliath’s head back to Jerusalem it had to be buried outside the city gates,as gentiles (non Jews)were considered unclean .
There was a path leading out of the main gate and the scull would have been buried under that path because as in ancient (and even modern) custom, anything under your feet is considered unclean and also means that you have complete authority and no respect for that which is under your feet, shoe, sandal.
The Giants head ,(root word meaning is”cranium” and that word means scull.
When Jesus’s blood dropped onto that ground,it represented victory over Satan, the Giants in our life and death itself.
Golgotha…..the place of the scull (or cranium)

I don’t believe David took the head of goliath 20 miles to Jerusalem and buried it. The head of goliath was a Trophy of war, what do you do with a Trophy , you display it . He displayed the Head of goliath on a hill over looking Jerusalem, that GOD’S people would look up and see their enemy has been destroyed. Today that hill is known as golgotha , the place of the skull or calvary. Today GOD’S people can look up to calvary and see that their enemy has been destroyed and that he has No power or authority over GOD’S PEOPLE.
